Rural LPG coverage

The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister has announced that full coverage of LPG connection in rural areas will be completed by 2018. It is heartening news provided translated into action. A vast population of rural areas is still without LPG connection and for energy source they depend either on kerosene or on firewood. Kerosene is already discouraged by the Government and the firewood is also becoming more scarcer. Moreover, the primitive ways of acquiring energy are no more fitting the modern times. The housewives in rural areas will be liberated from age old problem of making use of firewood and cow dung etc. Providing LPG connection to all households in rural areas of the State would be a major project and achievement. This indeed is good news and rural population will be gladdened by it. However, we cannot resist the temptation of telling the Government this should not become only a propaganda material but has to be translated into practice. The good thing is that the scheme also has the provision for providing insurance cover to the LPG-oven users.
