JAMMU, Oct 2: While Department of Posts released two special covers, the District Tuberculosis Centre, Jammu launched TB Seal Sale Campaign on Gandhi Jayanti and International Non-Violence Day today.
Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, R S Chib, in presence of Chief Postmaster General J&K, John Samuel released two special covers one each on Mahatma Gandhi and International Non-Violence Day on the second day of Philatelic Exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi.
In addition to the two special covers, a special hand made soap manufactured by Gandhi Seva Sadan, which will be available in Post Shops in J&K from tomorrow was also launched.
It is the first time in country that ‘My Stamp’ on Gandhiji has been issued by the Department of Posts in Jammu and Kashmir. My Stamp is a unique concept having a photograph printed along with the selected postage stamp, which can be sent to anybody as postage and also kept as a souvenir.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister complimented the Department for organizing the exhibition on philately, adding that the teachings of Gandhiji are not restricted to India but have universal appeal. He said it was an honour for Indians that 2nd of October is being observed as International Non-Violence Day across the world.
John Samuel, Chief Post Master General J&K said that Department of Posts is taking many steps to connect with the people of Jammu and the present exhibition on Gandhiji is one such step in this direction. He said “Gandhian values have more relevance than ever before in the present scenario of mistrust, violence and turmoil”.
The major attraction of the program was “Gandhi Ji look-a-like competition” wherein school children from more than 10 schools dressed as “Mahatma Gandhi”, received tremendous applause from the gathering.
The District Tuberculosis Centre, Jammu organised a function to mark 143rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at RRL, Canal Road. On the occasion, the 63rd TB Seal Sale Campaign was launched.
Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest, who inaugurated the 63rd TB Seal Sale Campaign.
Chairman TB Control Society Jammu and District Development Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma, Director Health Services, Jammu Dr Madhu Khullar, Director Horticulture J N Sharma, Drug Controller Jammu Satish Gupta, Vice Chairperson TB Association Prem Lata Bakshi, Deputy Director ISM Kashmir Singh, Deputy Director Central Dr Baldev Raj Sharma, Medical Superintendents, CMOs, BMOs, doctors, Para-medicos, NGOs, ASHA workers, prominent citizen and students of various institutions were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Mahatma was on apostle of peace whose message of ahimsa and non-violence assumes greater relevance today when the world is faced with growing intolerance and violence.
