SRINAGAR: Rejecting reports that Class 10th and 12th examinations have been postponed in Kashmir valley, state Education Minister Naeem Akhtar said there were no plans to defer the examinations.
“There is no plan to postpone 10th and 12th exams any further. I have been receiving countless calls from worried parents and children since yesterday after a baseless report was circulated by a news gathering agency and unfortunately picked up by many newspapers,” Mr Akhtar wrote on social networking site Facebook.
Asserting that some parents and students insisted that examinations must go on in accordance with the published date sheet, he said let the students remain focused on studies and prepare vigorously for examinations on the due date.
“All the students and parents who called me insisted that exams must go on in accordance with the published date sheet. That is the decision of the government as well. Let the students remain focused on studies and prepare vigorously for exams on the due date,” he said.
“One of the reporters was kind enough to call me for verification of the report and was told there is no plan to postpone exams beyond November 14, 15. He ran a long report quoting unnamed sources but chose not to carry my version,” he added.
Yesterday, local media ran a report that the government was discussing postponing the examinations till March due to the prevailing situation in the Kashmir. Meanwhile, normal life remained paralyzed due to strike called by separatists for 100th day today in entire Kashmir valley, where the unrest has left 86 civilians dead and over 10000 others injured since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag.
All educational institutes also wore a deserted look since July 9 in Kashmir, where some government schools and colleges were still occupied by security forces rushed from different parts of the country to curtail the unrest triggered by the death of Burhan. (AGENCIES)
