SRINAGAR: An amount of Rs 2,800 crore has been sanctioned by the Centre for upgradation and macadamisation of roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Jammu and Kashmir.
This was stated by Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri, today during a review meeting to check progress of works under execution under PMGSY scheme. However, the development activities, including macadamisation of roads, remained suspended since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahadeen commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag.
Meanwhile, the minister said the tenders have been issued and demarcation and upgradation is under process. The Minister asked the officers to improve the work efficiency and move men and machinery for making the State one of the better road connected states.
Mr Veeri also sought detailed report about the progress of works from phase three to phase 10. He stressed upon the officers to use advanced technology, modern equipment and better material so that it could become benchmark for the future works in the State.
Mr Veeri directed the officers to utilise the winter season for the demarcation and upgradation of roads so that by March the roads are ready for macadamisation. The Minister was informed that the department has received two DPR (Detailed Project Reports) from each constituency for upgradation of roads. (AGENCIES)
