LEH, Oct 17: LAHDC organized an exhibition here today on the initiative of officers of District Administration in collaboration with All Ladakh Tour Operator Association (ALTOA).
LAHDC, CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa commended the initiative taken by the officers and ALTOA said that it’s a novel idea to boost local products, skills and artists. Besides, it’s an attempt to encourage the local entrepreneurs added by economic benefit and entertainment factors. “We ensure full cooperation at all level to make this exhibition grand in future”.
Responding to query Dr. Dawa said that such exhibition helps to showcase our culture & heritage besides we get chance to see the innovative and creative ideas of youth ideas and after taking feedback from public we will make it a regular feature in coming Summer season”.
Prominent visitors to witness the exhibition include Congress Legislative Party Leader MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora, Executive Councillors (EC) for Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, EC Works Dorjay Mutup, Councillors and District officer.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh said that the main objective of organizing this exhibition is to provide an open market platform to all the local artists, products, art and craft and young entrepreneurs to showcase their skills, expertise and artisanship. He added that from next year onwards the plan is to make it a regular event once every week, especially during tourists’ season.
In Rigzin Spalgon, District Social Welfare Officer said “Revival of our dying art and craft is the need of time and this exhibition is an endeavor to promote local skills, products and artists. This exhibition will not only create a market opportunity but add commercial value to their products and provide livelihood avenues to younger generation.
Interacting with media, one of the stall owner Self Help Group from Taroo village Punchok Dolma said that she did a good business and such exhibition provides a market place to local artesian to exhibit their local products and she appreciated the administration endeavour.
