4 killed in road accidents

JAMMU, Oct 17: Four persons including a woman were killed in road accidents in Poonch and Rajouri districts  today.
A police spokesman from Mendhar said that two persons were killed and two others injured when a tipper rolled down into a gorge near Uchhad in Mankote area today. The mishap took place when a tipper No. JK-12/2182, loaded with sand was on way to a nearby village. Due to mechanical failure, the vehicle went out of control and rolled down into a  gorge.
The BSF jawans from the nearby unit rushed to the site. The locals also reached there. SDPO Mendhar Shahid Nahim and SHO Anzir Mir also arrived after some time.  One Maqsooda Bi, wife of Mohd Arif, resident of Banola was killed on the spot while Mohd Sarfraz, son of Mohd Yaqoob hailing from Pellian village near Uchhad succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital. Their dead bodies were shifted to  mortuary of SDH Mendhar.
Seriously injured driver Mohd Javed, son of Mohd Qasim,  resident of Salwah in Mendhar and one Liaqat Hussain, son of Fazal Hussain, resident of Salwah were  provided first aid  at nearby BSF unit hospital and then shifted to Mendhar hospital where doctors provided treatment and then referred them to GMC Hospital, Jammu.
A bike rider Pankaj Kumar, son of Satpal, resident  of Kangri  (Sunderbani) was hit by an Alto car No. JK-11A/ 4889 near Siot on Jammu-Poonch highway near Lamberi in Nowshera  area this morning.  He was rushed to Sunderbani hospital where doctors declared him as dead. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
In yet another such mishap near Gurdwara at Tallian village near Rajouri, a tanker No. JK01M/ 6086 hit a motor-cycle killing one Mohd Rafiq, son of Firoz Din, resident of Muradpur on  the spot. The pillion rider – Khadim Hussain, son of Abdul Ghani from Lam, was seriously injured and rushed to Rajouri hospital. The police seized the vehicle and registered a case. The driver was also arrested.
