Crane crushes woman to death, damages two vehicles

JAMMU, Oct 18: An unidentified woman of age about 30-35 years was today crushed to death by a speeding crane on the BC Road here at Rehari Chungi before hitting two other vehicles.
“An over speeding crane this afternoon hit a woman on BC Road at Rehari Chungi just opposite to Honda Showroom following which the panicked driver left the vehicle in moving state and fled from the spot, due to which the crane crushed the woman to death before hitting a bike and a Wagon-R car, which suffered minor damages”, Sub Inspector, Krishan Lal Raina, Incharge, police post, Rehari Chungi, said.
He said that the body of the woman was shifted to mortuary room of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu for identification and post mortem while a case has been registered and the crane seized. “A manhunt has also been launched to nab the driver of the crane,” he added.
Quoting local residents, the officer said that the woman was allegedly abnormal and was wandering in the vicinity for some days. “So far it  cannot be known to whom the crane belongs as it is without number and nobody came to us to claim the vehicle”, he added.
Meanwhile, the eyewitnesses alleged that soon after the accident they informed the police, but it took more than 45 minutes for the police to reach the spot and send the body of the deceased to the hospital for postmortem and identification.
