DC reviews progress on construction of community type bunkers

JAMMU, Oct 19: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh today reviewed the progress on the construction of community type bunkers on International Border at meeting of concerned officers.
Under a Pilot Project, a total of 97 concrete bunkers are being constructed in border areas of Jammu to provide shelter to the villagers   during cross border firing/shelling.
Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Jammu Shaukat Malik, CPO Jammu Girdhari Lal Sharma and BDOs of all border blocks were present in the meeting.
The ACD gave a detailed resume on the financial expenditure and physical status of the upcoming bunkers being constructed in all the border villages.
The DC sought area wise status report of bunkers from the concerned BDOs and directed them to expedite the work so that the bunkers would be handover to village representatives.
The Government of India had decided to construct concrete bunkers along the International Border to provide interim relief to people of border areas who are affected due to frequent ceasefire violations, DC said.
The DC directed the BDOs to submit status report of works to ACD on daily basis.
