JAMMU, Oct 22: BJP is going to mark the sacrifices of people of J&K as well as Army of Maharaja who fought against Pak raiders with great valour and dedication and resisted their attack on October 22 in 1947 when they entered the undivided J&K via Muzaffarabad by holding programmes at various levels.
This was stated by BJP State general secretary Dr. Narinder Singh while addressing media persons at party office along with State spokesperson Brig. (retd) Anil Gupta and Balbir Ram Rattan and BJP Sharnarthi Cell State Convenor Pt. Ashok Kumar Khajuria here today.
Dr Singh said that the sacrifices of the brave people are being commemorated by holding programmes by party activists at different levels and at various places.
He said that as a first reaction to this attack, the local populace resisted the Tribal raiders to save their State, honour and lives of their women and children.  In the process thousands of Hindus and Sikhs got dislodged from their houses and lost their properties to arson at the hands of the Pak controlled Tribal raiders who also looted the local residents and many of them were also done to death. Some were burnt alive. With only a handful of soldiers under the command of Brig. Rajinder Singh, the raiders were resisted along the Muzaffarabad-Uri-Srinagar route. These brave soldiers under Maharaja’s rule resisted Pak invasion and  delayed their advance to Kashmir valley. In this process they attained martyrdom but saved lakhs of people of the State as well as Capital city of Srinagar falling to the Pak invaders.
He said after the arrival of the Indian Army on October 27, 1947 and with the signing of the Instrument of Accession by Maharaja Hari Singh with Union of India, the dark period for the State came to an end.
He said on all fronts in Poonch, Rajouri, Mirpur, Jhanger, Nowshera in Jammu province and Kupwara, Teethwal, Baramulla, Shopian in the Kashmir valley, and people numbering over 50,000 especially Hindus and Sikhs were openly massacred by Tirbal raiders during the attack.
Dr. Singh said since then the BJP has been expressing its concern over the sufferings of PoJK displaced people who are living under sub human conditions in refugee camps since 1947 as if in exile in their own State.
Brig. Anil Gupta, announced that the Department of Policy Research of the State BJP will organize a seminar on ‘Accession Day’ titled “Accession of J&K to India is full & final” and a battery of intellectuals to address different session.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that the party will organize programmes on October 27 and Nov. 3 in memories of Brig. Rajinder Singh and Major Somnath Sharma respectively, wherein tributes will be paid to them and programmes at district and mandal levels will be organized.
