LEH (Nyoma), Oct 23: Demanding early completion of Dungti-Demchok road, the people of Demchok and Koyoul, residing on the Indo-China border jointly staged a peaceful protest march from 124 RCC GREF office to SDM office Nyoma.
Holding placard and National flag in the hands the protesters led by Koyoul and Demchok Nambardars Urgain Rangdol and Dorjay Namgyal raised slogans “Bharat Mata Ki Jai, we want Dungti-Demchok road”. The agitating nomads alleging Government’s step-motherly attitude towards this region said that the 130 km long road which serves as lifeline for number of villages which includes Demchok, Koyoul, Tsaga, Muth, Niddar has been neglected by the Government since 1962 wars and resident continues to suffer while travelling on the rough road.
They alleged that they had submitted number of memorandum and request to various political leaders or whosoever paid visit to their village especially during election but except promises nobody had done any efforts to repair the road said the resident and added that they have no wings to fly but forced to use the road in very bad condition since years. The protesters claimed that during emergency especially while ferrying sick people to block headquarters Nyoma for treatment they faced serious problems in their journey while travelling on the rough rood.
They claimed that they were natural guardian of border protecting the borders and if they move to some other places then there will be more incursion from China. Meanwhile to express their anguish towards Government apathy the nomads locked all the Government offices located in the village which includes Sheep Husbandry, Medical Centre, Ration Store to impress pressure on Government, however, they have led the school functioning due to ongoing annual examination.
Later, they submitted a resolution singed by entire inhibitions to Nyoma Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Tsering Motup to demand early completion of Dungti-Demchok, BSNL tower for telecommunication facility, land settlement, LAC certificate and launch of Pashimna promotion programme (P3) schemes in the Koyoul and Demchok.
Responding to Excelsior reporter’s query SDM termed it as genuine demands of resident and said that out of 130 kilometre long stretch about 90 kilometre stretch in bad condition which needs repair.
