JAMMU, Oct 26: The volunteers of All Migrant Employees Association of Kashmir (AMEAK) who are on a sit in dharna for the past 102 days seeking fool-proof security arrangements for them in Kashmir and release of salaries today began indefinite symbolic chain hunger strike in support of their demands in front of Relief and Rehabilitation Commis-sioner’s Office here.
“The 102 day old strike of the package and non package employees has now been intensified after the BJP-PDP Government showed no concern regarding the resolution of their problems with the beginning of symbolic chain hunger strike which would ultimately be converted into fast-unto-death if the Government continues to harass KP employees” said Vinod Pandit, chairman All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC).
Pandit said that APMCC has been supporting the cause of the employees right from the day one and now it was up to the Government whether to listen to the grievances of the AMEAK or let the situation escalate.
Speaking on the occasion national spokesperson APMCC King C Bharati said that APMCC has decided to come out in full support of the AMEAK and warned the BJP-PDP Government of dire consequences if it continues its discriminatory attitude towards Pandit community.
Bharati said that APMCC volunteers will go for fast-unto death hunger strike in due course of time if Government fails to respond favourably to the demands of the employees.
He also castigated the Government for a recent order under which teachers have been asked to guard their schools in the night saying such a foolish order can only be passed by incompitant officer who want teachers to perform where even armed police has failed adding whether Government treats teachers as bonded labour to push them to any trade it likes.
He also warned the State Government that harassing tactics with KP employees must stop immediately otherwise it should get ready to face some drastic steps which include gherao of ministers, bureaucrats and politicians in near future.
Today’s symbolic hunger strike was attended by many community leaders including Dr. TK Bhat general Secretary ASKPC, MK Yogi president NC Minority Cell, Prof GK Muju, journalist and social activist, Sundari Lal Koul, president Relief Holders Association, Som Nath Saraf, vice president Kapal Mochan Trust, Vinod Pandit, Chairman APMCC, King C Bharati , S Surinder Singh Bali, social activist, Rubon Saproo, president AMEAK, Rakesh Pandita, Kamal Pandita, Ajay Bhat, Rajinderji etc.
The volunteers who sat on the first day of chain hunger strike include Vinod Tikoo, Sunny Raina, Ranjan Jyotishi, Sarita, Sureeta and Suneeta Ji.
The NC Minority Cell president MK Yogi while extending his full support ridiculed the Government for harassing KP employees after facing heat in Kashmir while Dr TK Bhat of ASKPC said that community leadership will take the case to broader level to expose the misdeeds of the Government.
Sundari Lal Koul assured the employees of full support of his organisation and warned the elements hell-bent upon discriminating with Pandit community.
