Horticulture package will boost rural economy: Dr Narinder

JAMMU, Oct 28: BJP State general secretary, Dr. Narinder Singh, today said that the State of Jammu & Kashmir is fast moving towards fulfilling the dream of PM Narendra Modi to double the income of farmers by 2022.
Talking to mediapersons, here today Dr. Narinder Singh said that during the last over two years, Modi led Government at the Centre has initiated a number of development projects, welfare schemes and special packages with an objective of making available best infrastructure and modern technology to ensure that every section and every sector is promoted with special focus on economic empowerment of farmers.
“PM’s special emphasis has been on farmers and so Government launched schemes aimed at providing adequate compensation in situations of crop loss and approving package for enhancement of horticulture produce, so that the income of the farmers get doubled by 2022”, said Dr. Narinder Singh and added that it will result into boosting of rural economy.
The recent approval for Rs. 500 crore “Special Horticulture Package for the State by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs will prove to be a big boost for the Horticulture Sector in the State, which will obviously enhance the economy of the rural areas. He said that while it will further promote the apple growth in Valley, Jammu province will witness plantation, development and promotion of new varieties of fruits like mango, lichi, beir, guava and sub tropical fruits.
Since this package will be utilized for plantation infrastructure development, creation of water resources like tube wells bore wells, organic farming, setting up of cold storage and food processing units, establishment of marking infrastructure for horticulture produce, establishment of new gardens and nurseries, restoration of damaged area, the State will obviously register manifold increase in horticulture produce and also generate employment for thousands of unemployed youth.
Dr. Narinder Singh said that 75% area of Jammu province is dependent on rains and the provision of creation of water resources under this package will prove to be beneficial for Jammu province in particular.
