JAMMU, Oct 29: Congress Party today reached out to fire sufferers of Sukhnai in Warwan, a far-flung area with a very difficult hilly terrain in district Kishtwar and provided relief cheques to 120 affected families.
The State Congress team led by its president GA Mir, on the directions of AICC president Sonia Gandhi reached Sukhnai village in Warwan today and took stock of the damages caused to people due to the devastating fire, that has engulfed the entire village within no time leaving the poor inhabitants high and dry.
The team comprises MLA GM Saroori, MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani and Senior leader and former MLA Billawar, Balbir Singh.
The Congress team made on the spot assessment of the damages and the problems confronting the devastated families in the backdrop of the major fire incident, in which hundreds of souls lost their households and other belongings, leaving them shelterless.
Expressing deepest concern over the devastation caused, PCC chief GA Mir while terming the incident as most unfortunate and highly painful, assured the affected families of every possible help from the Congress party. He told the people at Sukhani that Congress is committed to their rehabilitation and will do everything possible to ensure respite to them in this hour of distress.
On this occasion, PCC chief distributed relief cheques sanctioned by Congress president Sonia Gandhi among 120 families of Sukhani. He also announced 30,000 to each family besides 10 blankets out of MPLAD of leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Gulam Nabi Azad, which will be distributed by the District Development Commissioner, very shortly.
PCC chief also conveyed sympathies of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to affected people and told them that both (Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi) were extremely concerned for their rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, PCC chief accompanied by team members had a detailed discussion with senior citizens and Congress workers of Warwan (Kishtwar) about the situation prevailing in the area. They people apprised the Congress team about the sufferings of the common man, which included poor electricity supply, road connectivity, rations and cooking gas supply and sought Congress party’s intervention to address their genuine concerns.
