Rahul marches to Indira Gandhi’s museum on her death anniversary

NEW DELHI : AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi today led a march of Congress leaders from party headquarters to Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum to pay tributes to his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, on her death anniversary.
In the wake of death of two ducks, suspected to be due to bird flu, the Delhi government had last Tuesday, closed down Shakti Sthal, the memorial of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Mr Gandhi, along with senior leaders such as Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and others, marched from 24, Akbar Road to Indira 1, Safdarjung Road.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the former Prime Minister on her death anniversary.
“Tributes to Ms Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary,” Mr Modi tweeted.
Indira Gandhi, India’s first woman Prime Minister, was born on November 19, 1917 and was assassinated on October 31, 1984, few months after she ordered the Operation Blue Star in Amritsar, to counter Punjab insurgency.
She was the second longest-serving Prime Minister after her father, late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. She held the Prime Minister’s office from January 1966 to March 1977 and from January 14, 1980 till her death. (AGENCIES)
