JAMMU, Nov 4: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) held a protest demonstration at Chatha Chowk, Gadigarh on R S Pura Road against the Government demanding immediate release of Rs 2000 crore package announced by Prime Minister.
The refugees from PoJK under the leadership of Khazan Singh, a veteran refugee leader and Gurdev Singh JKSAC president assembled at Chatha Chowk on RS Pura Road, today and started their protest demonstration. They were demanding immediate release of Rs 2000 crore package announced by Prime Minister for DP’s of 1947 from PoK and other categories. They also stressed upon the Govt to prepare a comprehensive road map for the resolution of DPs issue taking into account the Joint Parliamentary Committee report on Home Affairs.
Addressing the large number of protestors, Gurdev Singh president JKSAC strongly critised both State and Central Govt for adopting delaying approach on the package. Over one year has passed but the State Government has not been taking up the issue properly with the Centre. He regretted that despite the lapse of one year period no concrete efforts have been made by State Govt to get the package sanctioned. It is learnt from the reliable sources that the file processed for the release of funds is still pending in the North Block at New Delhi.
He said the package lacks clarity as it is missing many significant components particularly reservation or employment package for DP’s wards. Both the Govts have been represented many times to clarify the status and nature of so called one-time relief package. The criminal silence of Govt in this regard is becoming a cause of resentment among DPs. He said that it clearly indicates non-serious attitude of the Govt toward the DPs who are the first victims of Pakistani aggression in 1947, still awaiting the mitigation of their legitimate issues and sufferings for non of their fault.
Netar Prakash, general secretary and Balbir Singh also addressed the protestors and stressed upon the Govt to accommodate the left-out DPs having deficiency in land allotment and be compensated at the prevalent market rate as per their existing quantum of deficiency in land.
