SRINAGAR, Oct 4: More than 7500 posts are vacant in the Health Department while as 835 doctors and 3762 para-medicals have been engaged under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) programme in order to fill up the gap on account of staff shortage in the department in the State.
Minister for Medical Education, Rajinder Singh Chib told the Legislative Council here today that out of the 7522 vacant posts, 1309 fall under the state category with all these posts being gazetted. Chib said that 1569 posts are vacant in the Divisional Cadre Kashmir while as the number of vacancies with respect to Divisional Cadre Jammu is 1629.
Replying to a question posed by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri, The Minister said that 4568 non-gazetted posts are vacant across the State, adding that number of vacancies with respect to class-IV are 1645. He said the Government is on the job to fill up these posts and that recruiting agencies like Public Service Commission and Services Selection Board have been asked to speed up the process of recruitment.
Jammu accounts for the highest number of vacancies as 385 posts consisting 295 non-gazetted and 90 class IV posts are vacant. Rajouri is second on the list with 336 vacancies comprising 285 non-gazetted and 51 class IV posts. Kathua figures third on the list with 302 vacancies consisting 216 non-gazetted and 86 class IV posts. Baramulla comes next on the list with 206 vacancies comprising 162 non-gazetted and 44 class IV posts.
Ramban figures fifth on the list with 199 vacancies comprising 139 non-gazetted and 60 class IV posts. Budgam figures on serial number six on the list of vacancies with 167 vacant posts comprising 152 non-gazetted and 15 class IV posts. Next on the list is Poonch with 166 vacancies comprising 133 non-gazetted and 33 class IV posts. Reasi with 165 vacancies comprising 127 non-gazetted and 38 class IV posts figures on serial number eight in the overall list of vacancies in the State.
With 160 vacant posts comprising 126 non-gazetted and 34 class IV posts Doda figures on serial number nine in the list of vacancies. Udhampur has 137 vacancies comprising 111 non-gazetted and 26 class IV posts. Samba figures next on the list with 135 vacancies consisting 107 non-gazetted and 28 class IV posts. Kishtwar has 133 vacancies comprising 98 non-gazetted and 35 class IV posts and figures on serial number 12 as far as vacancies in the State are concerned.
Kupwara figures at serial number 13 with 117 vacancies comprising 101 non-gazetted and 16 class IV posts. Anantnag with 72 vacancies consisting 62 non-gazetted and 10 class IV posts figures at serial number 14 on the list of vacancies. Kulgam has 70 vacancies consisting 58 non-gazetted and 12 class IV posts. Leh district in Ladakh division has 54 vacancies comprising 38 non-gazetted and 16 class IV posts and figures at serial number 16. Pulwama stands at serial number 17 with 46 vacancies comprising 43 non-gazetted and three class IV posts.
Ganderbal district has 43 vacancies comprising 33 non-gazetted and 10 class IV posts and stands at serial number 18. Kargil stands next to Ganderbal with 42 vacancies consisting 38 non-gazetted and four class IV posts. Srinagar has 36 vacancies comprising 28 non-gazetted and eight class IV posts and stands at serial number 20. Next on the list is Bandipora district with 23 vacancies comprising 17 non-gazetted and six class IV posts. Shopian has the least number of vacancies with 22 comprising 15 non-gazetted and seven class IV posts.
