JAMMU, Oct 4: The veteran BJP leader and former Governor of Goa and Sikkim, Kedar Nath Sahni who breathed his last in Union Capital yesterday was given a tearful adieu by hundreds of his party colleagues and friends after his mortal remains were consigned to flames at Lodhi Road cremation ground.
A large number of BJP activists, senior party leaders and relatives and friends of veteran leader attended his funeral procession which started from his residence 2 Greater Kailash, New Delhi to Lodhi Road cremation ground.
Earlier the BJP leader’s body was kept at Party Headquarters at 11 Ashoka road, New Delhi for public darshan from 1 pm to 2-30 pm. where hundreds of Party leaders and activists laid wreaths on his body and paid their last respects to him.
Among the senior BJP leaders present on the occasion included Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, former Union Minister, Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, BJP national spokesman, Ravi Shanker Prasad, BJP general secretary, Anant Kumar, former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundra Raj Scindia, former Delhi Chief Minister, Madan Lal Khurana, BJP leader from Delhi, V K Malhotra, Prof O P Kohli, BJP leaders T N Razdhan and C L Gadoo, KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri KSD president, Rakesh Koul and Nancy Koul a women leader.
Prior to his appointment as Governor of Goa and Sikkim, Mr Sahni had worked on key Party posts including its national general secretary and Delhi state president. He was also appointed as Chief Executive Councilor and Mayor of Delhi and during this period he worked tirelessly for the development of Union Capital. He also served as MP.
Mr Sahni as Pracharak of RSS in late forties was in charge of J&K for a long time and later as the Jan Sangh and BJP leader he too was given the charge of border State. He played a key role in Praja Parishad movement of 1953 by bringing all the nationalist forces on a single platform in the State.
He also remained RSS Prachark in Mirpur upto 1947 and during Pak invaders attack he was in Mirpur.
He did a remarkable job during the turmoil of Kashmir in organising the Party and Sangh activists for providing relief to the displaced Hindus from Valley at Jammu and Union Capital and personally monitored the entire process. For this goodwill gesture and in settling hundreds of displaced families in Union Capital besides absorbing the community youth in private enterprises and Delhi Government schools he is held in high esteem by Kashmiri Pandit community.
Mr Sahni was known for his selfless service and dedication and he commanded a lot of respect in the party circles. He was among that lot of Sangh leaders who have become a role model for future generation.
Various social and political organizations have condoled his demise and termed his death a great loss to nation. Besides state, BJP leaders, BJYM state unit led by Munish Sharma , BJP Migrant Cell president Bharat Bushan Gosani, ASKPC president HL Chatta, KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri, JK VM president T N Razdhan and its general secretary HL Bhat have expressed profound shock and grief over demise of Mr Sahni.
