JAMMU, Nov 6: Inspector General (IG) Traffic Shafqat Watali reviewed the traffic arrangements and its management in view of opening of annual Darbar Move offices here tomorrow and also termed it a challenge.
While interacting with media persons here today, IG Traffic said that with Darbar Move number of vehicles rise by 30 percent, which means at an average over 50,000 vehicles from Srinagar shift to Jammu and add to city traffic.
He stated that the cops have been directed and asked to perform their duties as per the task allotted in routine but be extra cautious and more efficient with the Darbar Move opening.
Admitting shortage of manpower in the traffic department, he said, “we have to manage with the available manpower so that traffic scenario remains in place and people do not suffer”.
He however, sought cooperation of public, traders and transporters to keep city traffic in streamline and have appealed to the people to avoid parking their vehicles in no parking zone.
Watali said that many measures are being taken and discussed to keep traffic moving without any hiccups and for that matter agencies like Road and Buildings, JMC, JDA are also being contacted to hold review meeting so that challenge of rising traffic can be met.
