Sham distributes 300 LPG connections under PMUY

JAMMU, Nov 6: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary today distributed over 300 LPG  connections among  the female beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in a function held here.
The Minister while addressing the gathering said that PMUY is a major initiative to empower women and give them a healthy environment.
He said that use of LPG in households will help protect the health of the women and reduce the serious health hazards associated with cooking based on fossil fuel, reduce the number of deaths in India due to unclean cooking fuel and prevent young children from significant number of acute respiratory illnesses caused due to indoor air pollution by burning the fossil fuel.
The Minister said that with Prime Minister’s initiative over 1 crore people voluntarily gave up their LPG subsidy. The savings generated from this initiative are being  utilized in providing subsidized LPG connections to the poor.
Sham Lal also assured the people that all left out households will soon be covered under PMUY in the subsequent camps to be held at panchayat level thereby ensuring cent percent coverage.
Sham Lal  also listed out various social elevation schemes launched by Centre & State Governments  and urged the people to avail the benefits of these schemes
He stressed upon people to help disseminate  information about these welfare programmes among others   so that no household remains devoid of the benefits from these welfare  schemes.
