JAMMU, Nov 6: Former Minister and senior National Conference (NC) leader, Ajay Sadhotra has emphasized the need of giving sense of belonging to the people especially youth residing in border areas at this crucial time of escalation on the borders.
He stated this during a meeting at Parwah in Marh.
The BJP-PDP Government in the State and BJP led Government in the Centre have left the border people at the mercy of God. The people are feeling isolated and helpless, asserted Sadhotra.
NC leader has asked the Government to reserve the posts of constables and SPOs in J&K Police out of 5000 and 10,000 posts respectively for border youth. On-spot recruitment of border youth should be made as was previously made by Governments led by Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
“The Border Youth are very bold and courageous. Their families have been facing trouble on the border since 1947. On-spot recruitment will give the sense of belonging and encouragement to the youth living along International Border and Line of Control”, said Sadhotra.
He alleged that PDP-BJP Government in the State and BJP led Government at centre are totally ignoring the border people and Government has not taken effective measures for their security and other logistics.
Sadhotra further said the previous Government has recommended to the Central Government for release of funds for construction of community bunkers in border villages for safety and protection of border dwellers but it is unfortunate that as usual lip service has been done, no funds have been released, no bunkers have been constructed as yet and border villagers have to face the music under the sky.
“The visit of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti of Poonch district to meet border dwellers has proved unproductive. The people living along IB and LOC are further feeling alienated and helpless as they are on the one hand worried about their life and property, standing crops and livestock. The Government on the other hand is not providing any effective help for their problems. The irresponsive behavior of the government has further given sense of isolation to the border villagers”, added Sadhotra.
Among others who spoke were Jag Bushan, Kala Ram, Rajnish, Captain Om Parkash, Raman, Raj Kamal, Subedar Kasturi Lal, Choudhary Keemat Lal Sarpanch, Master Prem Saini, Rameshwar Sharma, Narinder Kumar, Purshotam Sharma, Fandhu Sharma and Anil Kumar.
