SRINAGAR, Nov 6: A notorious timber smuggler was today apprehended by a joint team of Forest Protection Force and Police at Chawan forests of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A police official said that Police along with sleuths of Forest Department laid a trap in Chawan Forests where Gowher Ahmed Parray alias Setay Parray, a resident of Kellar Shopian, was found smuggling timber. Police recovered 174 feet timber along with three horses from him.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Shafat Ahmad said Parray was most wanted smuggler in police records as he dodged them several times in the past three years.
The hard-core smuggler changed his places and timing frequently thus putting the police in helpless situations but this time police arrested him on spot, the DySP said.
