Worst traffic jam on Akhnoor Road

JAMMU, Nov 6: The cops  ‘in blue’’ were found missing as the worst traffic jam on Canal and Akhnoor Road for about two hours gave the people moments of tension and agony this evening.
As the cavalcade of  the VIP- Dr Farooq Abdullah left the venue of  function,  Abhinav Theatre at around 5.25 pm today, the cops on duty also disappeared on the entire route and  the traffic jam started accumulating all along. Right from Jewel Chowk up to Canal Road, Shakti Nagar Pulli and Akhnoor Road up to BSF Campus area at Paloura, hundreds of vehicles were trapped in the worst ever traffic jam.
Even on the second road across the canal,  another jam was created as people started using that route after spotting traffic congestion at main road.  All the links between Talab Tillo and Akhnoor roads were also choked and worst ever traffic chaos was witnessed on the highway at all the junctions.
Not even a single Traffic Police officer or  constable was seen  on the highway to regulate the traffic. Two ambulances coming from Akhnoor and Rajouri side were also seen trapped in the traffic jam near Patta Bohri Chowk and BSF Campus. The people intending to make way for the trapped ambulances  with patients were feeling helpless under such circumstances.
Later, some youth from a few vehicles came out and then played the role of Traffic cops and  ensured the slow movement of vehicles.  The public and commuters were seen cursing the Traffic cops  for their absence from such critical areas and alleged that they have been perhaps  deployed by the Government only for collecting Hafta, share booty and not for the general public to provide them relief.
It took about two hours to clear the traffic jam to the people working voluntarily on this road.  They felt that due to lack of coordination, insensitive  attitude and supervision on the part of senior Traffic police officers, such frequent traffic jams are  witnessed in Jammu city.
