Militants active in Kashmir valley but security forces dealing them: Mehbooba

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said that militants are active in the Kashmir valley but the government is dealing them accordingly.
“Nearly 100 to 200 militants including the foreigner mercenaries are active in the Kashmir valley but the security forces, army are dealing them accordingly,” Ms Mufti here told reporters after taking Guard of Honour on the first day of Darbar Move offices at Civil Secretariar here.
The Chief Minister said that years ago presence of militants was high but presently the figure has come down and security forces are handling them. She, however, also expressed concern over burning of schools in the violence-hit Valley and termed it as unfortunate.
“Burning of schools is the most unfortunate part of Kashmir unrest but the Government has taken the timely action and arrested those behind it,” she asserted.
“Situation for the past one week has improved and normalcy is returning,” said the Chief Minister.
On border firing she said, “the state is facing hard times internally and externally as well.”
On one hand unrest has hit the state and simultaneously Pakistan is violating ceasefire on borders, she said.
“May God good sense prevails and peace restores on borders,” she said adding that Pakistan needs to understand and will soon realise that peace is good for both the nations.
She advocated former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s doctrine asserting that it is the only solution to resovle any crisis.
Despite Kargil war, India, Pakistan agreed to move forward with dialogue, she opined.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed Vajpayee’s formula to strengthen Indo-Pak ties but Pakistan is not responding positively, which is unfortunate,” she added. (AGENCIES)
