REASI, Nov 9: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today reviewed the overall functioning and progress of various schemes in the education sector in district Reasi.
Chairing a meeting, the Minister took detailed component-wise review of various schemes. The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Finance and Planning, Information Technology, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Nanda, Commissioner Secretary to Government, School Education Department, Shaleen Kabra, Director School Education, Jammu Babita Rakwal, State Project Director, RMSA Saugat Biswas and DC Reasi, Ravinder Kumar.
The Minister stressed the need for uplifting the standards of Government schools and improving the quality of education. He said new and innovative academic and vocational courses would be introduced for the all-round development of students. He also stressed the need for improving the infrastructure, revisiting the curriculum and maintaining required teacher-student ratio in the Government schools. He urged the Principals of various educational institutions in the district to focus on co-curricular activities for the all-round development of the students
Detailed deliberations were also held on various issues like shortage of staff, number of vacancies and infrastructure of various educational institutions.
A number of prominent citizens who attended the meeting raised various demands like Degree College at Pouni and Katra, Higher Secondary School at Ransoo, introduction of commerce stream in all the Higher Secondary Schools and science laboratory in GHS schools in the district.
The Minister also conducted surprise inspection at Government Middle School Moori and Government Degree College, Reasi.
During his visit to various educational institutions, the Minister interacted with the students and inquired about the quality of education and facilities being provided to them.
Earlier, the Chief Education Officer Reasi, Vinod Kumar Soni gave a detailed account of the various achievements of the Education Department in the district through a power point presentation.
