UDHAMPUR, Nov 10: A delegation of Associated Chamber of Commerce & Industries Udhampur led by its president Ravi Malgooria called on Minister of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Choudhary and submitted a memorandum to him highlighting the problems faced by the Industrial Centre Battal Ballian near here due to acute water scarcity.
The memorandum said that the water scarcity is a big barrier in the growth of the industry in the area. It said inadequate availability of water is becoming a cause of concern for the industry in the area.
It said over 2000 workers are putting up in the industrial belt at Battal Ballian and they face acute water scarcity. The delegation further said that the reservoir at  IID Centre Battal Ballian was originally meant for supplying water to the industries only but PHE Department has started supplying water to the nearby villages from the same reservoir which in turn added to the problems of industrialists.
It demanded setting up of new reservoir at the IID Centre and laying of new pipes as the present pipes through which water is supplied are over a century old.
