School, auto torched in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Police today arrested chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Mohammad Yaseen Malik, and put chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest ahead of proposed protest march by separatists to Jamia Masjid Srinagar tomorrow.
Police today arrested Malik form Maisuma, a week after he was released from jail where he was put for several months. And Mirwaiz Umar was put under house arrest as the separatists had called for march to Jamia Masjid Srinagar on the occasion of Friday.
Police said that miscreants set ablaze building of Government Primary School Palpora Noorbagh area of Srinagar this evening. The roof of the rented school building was damaged in the fire.
Police said that miscreants set afire an Auto rickshaw bearing registration number JK01 V 8594 and owned by Rouf Ahmad Bhat at Rangh Hamam Khanyar in Srinagar.
In the meantime, normal life across Kashmir remained affected on the consecutive 125th day today due to the separatist sponsored strike, though Srinagar witnessed some semblance of normalcy with brisk movement of vehicles in some areas.
Some shops were also open in the areas in the Civil Lines and outskirts of the city as well in some rural areas in other districts of the Valley. Srinagar saw movement of private and public transport, except buses, in some areas of the city.
Schools and business establishments elsewhere remained closed due to the strike called by the separatist groups including both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF.
There were no curbs on movement of people anywhere in Kashmir, but adequate deployment of security forces has been made at some vulnerable points to maintain law and order as well as to instill a sense of security among the people to carry out their day to day activities.
A police spokesman said here that with constant increase in private and public transport on the Valley roads, situation remained peaceful and under control across the Valley till filing of this report.
“During the day no untoward incident was reported from any part of the Valley. Shops and other business establishments were seen open in most parts of the Valley. Private and a good number of public transport  vehicles  were seen plying on the city roads as also in other main towns. Vendors in large numbers were doing their routine business across the Valley”, the spokesman said.
“Meanwhile, necessary security arrangements were put in place on some vulnerable points to prevent an untoward incident of disrupting normal life and flow of traffic”, the spokesman added.
