Ahead of exams, Spl DG chairs security meet

SRINAGAR, Nov 12:  With two days left for crucial Board examination, a high-level meeting of police and Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) was held here at Police Control Room (PCR) which was chaired by Special Director General of Police (DGP), Dr SP Vaid and matters regarding the conduct of class 10th and class 12th examinations were discussed threadbare.
During the meeting, the Special DG said there should be a perfect coordination and synergy between the field officers of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education, Department of Education, Magistrates and police for the conduct of forthcoming 10th and 12th standard examination.
Speaking on this occasion, the Special DG said that foolproof security and transport plans should be put in place and extra care needs to be taken for the examination centres categorized as sensitive and of far-flung areas. Dr Vaid said that the endeavour of the police is to ensure incident free conduct of examinations and for that there should be a meaningful briefing to the last men on the ground.
He emphasized upon the officers that plans designed for these examinations should be implemented in true letter and spirit on the ground keeping in view of local situations, a police spokesman said here. Earlier, Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, SJM Gillani, gave a detailed briefing about the plans being adopted for the smooth conducting of these examinations.
He said that adequate deployments have been placed at the disposal of District SSPs and the security arrangement for all the centres and for the transportation of examination material have already been worked out. The IGP said that for timely and regular feed backs and updates, a call centre like facility is being established in PCR Kashmir which will remain in touch with the all the officers/ official of the departments involved in three week long exercise.
The police spokesman said among others the meeting was attended by DIGs of all three ranges of Kashmir Division, all the district SSPs and officers of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education. According to Board officials, a total of 1.21 lakh students are supposed to appear in the 10th and 12th examinations. “Out of 1.21 lakh, 67,000 candidates would appear in matriculation exam and 54,000 in secondary exam,” they said. For the first time, no exam centre would be located at any private school and all of them would be located at Government schools and colleges.
In the meantime, Private Schools Association of Kashmir (PSAK) today decided to provide provisional promotion to all classes except class 10th and 12th with immediate effect in order to “safeguard the interests” of students.
In a joint meeting of Executive Members of PSAK and Coaching Centres Association (CCA) of Kashmir held under the chairmanship of G N Var, the decision of mass promotion was taken besides other decisions were also taken to save the precious time of students.
The Association said that it was also decided in the meeting that schools will open during “deal period” to start new admissions and issue assignments and do other academic work.
Regarding coaching centres, it was decided to provide helping hand to affected students. “All coaching centres have decided to help the needy students particularly those affected during the turmoil.
