SRINAGAR : Wishing good luck to all the students appearing for class 12th examination, commencing from today, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah advised them to block out the distractions and politics as best as they can.
“Good luck to all the kids appearing in their board exams in J&K starting from today. Block out the distractions & politics as best you can,” Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of main opposition National Conference (NC) in the State, wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
As many as 48,000 candidates are appearing in the class 12th examination in 484 centres setup across Kashmir valley, where about 30 educational institutions were gutted under mysterious fire incidents in the past 129 days of unrest.
An official spokesperson here said over 95 per cent candidates have collected their admit cards and were expected to sit in the examination. “Restrictions under Section 144 CrPC in and around the examination centres in the Valley have been imposed to maintain law and order,” they added.
Despite opposition by mainstream political parties, separatists, student unions and traders associations, the government decided to go ahead with examinations in the Valley, where over 90 civilians were killed and over 10,000 others were injured in security force action since July 9.
However, the Board of School Examination (BOSE) has announced a cut of 50 per cent in the syllabus for the students appearing in the examination commencing from today. This concession will not be available for the students who have opted for March examinations. (AGENCIES)
