JAMMU, Nov 17: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry today took up the issues of traders and transporters besides others of Jammu’s interests with the Chief Minister.
During meeting with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here today, president of the CCI Rakesh Gupta extended gratitude to the Government for announcing amnesty in GST and also raised some demands in addition to the other issues raised on earlier occasions by Jammu Chamber.
He said that with the Amnesty Scheme the traders are feeling a great relief. It is a great step towards ending unnecessary harassment to honest businessmen as most of the recovery issues were pending either in the courts or the Appeal Department of the Finance Department for settlement.
CCI president pointed out that the demand for amnesty to the transporters on Passenger Tax is still pending. They have also suffered a lot in view of Kashmir unrest and situation along borders. Then transporters should also be granted amnesty in terms of tax. The transporters should also be provided compensation for the losses/ damages suffered by the vehicles and due to non-operation.
Mr Gupta also requested the Chief Minister to get necessary amendments in the Disability Act of the State and bring it at par with the Disability Act of Government of India which would be great steps towards helping suffering humanity.
Referring to the traffic chaos in Jammu markets, the Chamber demanded that sufficient parking sites be created at Residency Road, Jewel Chowk, Canal Road, Parade Ground and other areas of the city. He said that parking on the roads and lanes has become a cause of headache for the people and Traffic cops. He said that there is a huge chunk of land lying vacant adjoining Hotel Premier which has not been utilized because of litigations between different departments and also near Dennis Gate. The sites be used for multi-storey parking.
