SRINAGAR, Nov 28: Dozens of households in Noorani Colony of Kursu Padshahi Bagh area of summer capital are without electricity since yesterday as a tipper rammed into a power transformer and damaged it severely.
Residents of Noorani Colony said the tipper driver was being driven very fast and directly rammed into the power transformer, resulting in massive damage to it and complete breakdown of electricity. They said the intensity of the ramming of truck can be gauged by the fact that the wall built around the transformer was also damaged.
The residents said even though they instantly took up the matter with concerned Power Development Department (PDD) officials and formally lodged a complaint but none of the officials have so far visited the spot where the transformer lies damaged.
“This is carelessness on part of the PDD officials that more than 24 hours have passed but none of their top or low-ranking official has visited the spot to assess the damage caused by tipper to the transformer, leave aside taking it for repair or replacing it so that electricity to our houses is restored,” said Ali Muhammad, a local resident.
The residents appealed concerned officials to immediately take cognizance of their complaint so that the electricity to their area can be restored at earliest. “We are passing through harsh winter days and electricity is most needed this time for us,” they said.
