JAMMU, Nov 28: Pradesh Congress today organised ‘Jan Aakrosh’ rallies across the State to lodge their protest against demonetization decision of the Modi Govt and problems being faced by the general public with this process in the country.
At Jammu, the massive rally was held under the leadership of former Minister and PCC vice president Raman Bhalla at Satwari under Gandhi Nagar constituency. State president of the PCC Ghulam Ahmed Mir was leading it. Senior party leaders- Nawang Rigzin Jora, Ghulam Mohd Saroori, Ajaz Ahmed Khan, Yogesh Sawhney, Indu Pawar, Manmohan Singh, Anil Chopra, Pranab Shagotra and many others were also accompanying.
They all assembled at Satwari Chowk and disrupted the movement of vehicular traffic for more than one and half hour. The Congress activists were carrying party flags, banners and placards depicting their demands. They were also raising slogans against the Modi Govt and BJP. Several senior leaders including GA Mir, Mr Jora and Mr Bhalla addressed the party workers assembled at Sartwari Chowk in large number.
PCC president lashed out at BJP Govt at the Centre for its failure on all fronts and vitiating the atmosphere of peace and harmony. He claimed that Modi Govt has brought miseries for the people and has failed to honour even single commitment made during the elections with the people. The sudden announcement of demonetization by PM Modi on November 8 was an attempt to divert the attention of the general public from the basic issues, he maintained.
Later, the police tried to clear the highway and arrested at least 200 Congress activists including PCC president Mir, Raman Bhalla and Mr Jora. They packed in police buses and then detained at DPL Gandhi Nagar. They were released after some time.
Senior vice president of PCC Sham Lal Sharma was leading similar protest at Akhnoor while former DyCM Tara Chand at Khour town near the Indo-Pak border. The Congress workers also blocked road for more than an hour. At Mishriwalla, the Congress workers led by senior leaders Mula Ram and Balwan Singh were cane charged by cops. The police dispersed them using force to clear the highway.
In Poonch, the protest was held at Jarha Wali Gali on highway under the leadership of Rajinder Singh kaka district president, MLA Surankote Ch Akram and Ms Parveen Sarwar Khan from Mendhar. The highway was blocked for about two hours. At Rajouri, the Congress workers led by Shabir Khan held protest rally.
In Kathua district, ‘Jan Aakrosh’ rally under the leadership of former MLC Subash Gupta was held at Chadwal on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway. Ex-MLA Balbir Singh, Naresh Sharma, Ex-MLA GL Chalotra, Rajneesh Sharma, Pankaj Dogra, Aradana Andotra and others were also accompanying. The movement of vehicles was also disrupted for about 30 minutes.
Similar protests and rallies were held at Udhampur, Samba, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Ramban, Reasi, Sunderbani and Nowshera.
