JAMMU, Nov 28: 3rd Additional Munsiff Jammu Meyank Gupta today rejected the bail application of Rajiv Sharma, son of Sham Lal Sharma of Subash Nagar, who was involved in a fake currency note case.
After hearing CPO Jawaid Ahmed Khawaja with Senior PO Manmohit, the court observed, “Government in order to curb the fake notes and black money has come up with new currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 which are made available through banks”.
“Moreover, the Government of India has come up with very stern efforts to curb the menace of fake currency notes and has put serious riders for the exchange of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes”, the court said, adding “it is prima-facie clear from the police report and CD file that the applicant/accused has admitted that he has given Rs 2000 fake currency note to the co-accused and both went to the shop of the complainant for buying the vegetable and when the complainant became doubtful regarding the same being genuine, both accused tried to run away but were caught by the public and handed over to the police”.
“From the perusal of the police report and CD file, it is revealed that though the investigation is still in progress yet the source of alleged fake note has not been ascertained by the police as both the accused have not revealed from whom they got this note”, the court said, “it has to be established, how and in which circumstances the accused/applicant came in possession of alleged fake currency note so that the menace of fake currency already prevalent in our country can be curbed”.
“Since the investigation in the present case is still in progress and there are strong acquisitions against the accused and other co-accused which prima facie shows their involvement in grave, heinous and serious offence of counterfeiting the currency notes, at this stage, the applicant can’t be enlarged on bail”, the court said while rejecting the bail application.
