JAMMU, Nov 28: Organized by Viklang Chhatra Trust in collaboration with J&K Health Department, a 3-day long free Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) surgery camp for cataract camp began today at Sub District Hospital (SDH), Akhnoor.
The camp is being organized in the memory of late Justice RP Sethi, under the programme to declare Akhnoor Tehsil a cataract free zone. The camp was inaugurated by MLA Akhnoor, Rajeev Sharma.
A team of eye surgeons of Health Department led by senior eye surgeon, Dr Rajeev Sharma and Dr Aarti Sharma checked up over 150 patients suffering from various eye ailments and were given treatment with free medicines.
Over 25 patients were registered for Intra Ocular Surgery and they will undergo the surgery tomorrow. Most of the patients were aged and belonged to weaker sections of society. Free lodging, boarding, medicines and other allied facilities shall be provided to the indoor patients by the Trust.
On the occasion, the MLA sanctioned one lakh rupees for procurement of sophisticated equipment for SDH Akhnoor from his discretionary fund.
