MUMBAI:  National award-winning actress Vidya Balan said she was never part of the Bollywood rat race aiming for stardom and box office numbers, but surely wants her upcoming film “Kahaani 2-Durga Rani Singh” to do well.

“I want the film to do very well. I am not thinking of anything like this. I feel thrilled about the work that I am doing. I just want it (Kahaani 2′) to do well… Ups and downs are part of career,” Vidya told PTI when asked if a lot is at stake for her professionally with “Kahaani 2”.

“The Dirty Picture” star insists that box office numbers do not matter to her.

“I don’t care about the graph, I have never been bothered about all this. I have never been in that rat race. I have never competed. I have been living in a bubble of my own.

“I have never compared myself to anyone or compared anyone to me. I think therefore numbers, remuneration are something I have never spoken about it. I get as much as what I command and that’s what matters to me,” she said.

Off late, Vidya’s films haven’t performed well at the box office but the actress says she has taken failure in her stride.

“It is heartbreaking when a film doesn’t work. But one has to get over it. It is like you go through heartbreaks in life and then you know there are many fishes in the sea.

“Whether a film has succeeded or not its all about me. This film did not work but I have a next film. I get satisfaction from my work. I am living my dream of being an actor. I feel blessed,” the 38-year-old actress said.

Vidya is now busy with the promotions of her new film.

For almost all her films there has always been an innovative marketing idea. For promotions during “Kahaani” Vidya stepped out as pregnant lady; for “Bobby Jasoos” she turned a beggar and now with “Kahaani 2..”, there are ‘wanted’ posters all around.

“It is not my idea, it is the marketing team of a film that is fantastic and bright. I think marketing is important to put out the right kind of communication.”

“It is a franchise, we are taking ahead the story. I heard a lot of people were shocked and surprised with the poster idea,” she added.

The Sujoy Ghosh directed film is set to release this Friday. (AGENCIES)
