Pall of gloom descends on Army Jawan’s native village

BATALA: A pall of gloom descended over sprawling residence of 32-year-old Hawaldar Sukhraj  Singh of 166 R T Filed regiment Singh at Mann Nagar  locality today as news of  his martyrdom  spread across the village.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sukhraj Singh was among 2 officers and 5 soldiers who were killed when pak trained heavily armed terrorists stormed into an Army unit at Nagrota and Jammu yesterday morning.

According to his family sources, Singh had joined Indian Army as a soldier 11 years ago.

He is survived by wife Harmeet Kaur, mother Swanjeet Kaur, elder brother Dhanrja Singh, seven year old daughter Subhpreet and five year old son Sargundev Singh. His daughter and son were waiting for his arrival as he was to reach on the same day as he got martyrdom.

His wife Harmeet Kaur said that he was posted at Nagrota (Jammu) six months ago as he was serving at Army unit in Sagar and he was coming home on November 29 (yesterday) on leave as he was to relieve at 0600 hrs but terrorists attacked on the unit at 0500 hrs. But instead of take leave he started fighting with the terrorists and got martyrdom.

The jawan’s family members demanded that Pakistan be taught a lesson for harbouring terrorists while Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur Pardeep Sabharwal, Kunwar Ravinder Singh Vicky general secretary Saheed Sainik Parivar Sukrsha Prishad and high police and civil officers  expressed their sadness.
