JAMMU, Dec 4: Governor N.N. Vohra today paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his birth anniversary and recalled his significant contribution to the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his message, the Governor observed that Sheikh Abdullah was a charismatic leader and a social reformer who fought for the rights of the oppressed sections of the society, irrespective of caste, creed or religion and strived for the sustenance of secular and pluralistic values.
The Governor said that a continuous endeavour towards strengthening of our democratic institutions and maintenance of communal harmony and brotherhood would be a befitting tribute to Sheikh Abdullah.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has also paid rich tributes to former Chief Minister, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
In her message, the Chief Minister said the late leader was visionary in his approach who would always be remembered for taking many revolutionary steps including introduction of Single Line Administration in the State.
Mehbooba Mufti also prayed for eternal solace to the late leader.
National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah have also paid tributes to Sheikh Abdullah.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah said Sher-e-Kashmir’s struggles and sacrifices for the dignity of this State and its people need to be emulated to take the State out of the throes of divisive politics and sinister plans of political disempowerment.
Omar Abdullah said, “Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah’s legacy denotes the State’s high traits of pluralistic ethos and inclusiveness. He nurtured and strengthened this characteristic and cemented the bonds of love between various sections of the society and different regions of the State”.
