JAMMU, Dec 5: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a trucker with 10 kilograms of charas and Rs 10 lakh demonetized cash.
As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka near Kunjwani and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK05B-0122 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot by crushing the barricades. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased and intercepted the truck near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 10 kilograms of charas packed in black bag and Rs 10 lakh in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, which are no longer a legal tender from the vehicle and arrested the truck driver.
The accused has been identified as Gulzar Ahmed, son of Zai-ul-Din, a resident of Narbal, District Budgam, Kashmir.
During preliminary questioning, the accused revealed that he had been smuggling the consignment since long. The accused also admitted that he had brought the charas from Anantnag and was about to deliver it to his associates in Jammu for further dissemination among the youth to make them drug addicts.
With the arrest of this narcotic smuggler, Gangyal police has achieved a great success to prevent the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 137/16 under Section 8/20 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at police station Gangyal and further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta and SP South Shaazad Salaria.
