Navy comes to rescue of 800 stranded tourists

NEW DELHI : The Indian Navy today launched an early morning rescue operation to evacuate over 800 tourists who have been stuck in Havelock Island of Andaman and Nicobar after the rains lashed the city. After the civil administration requested for assistance to evacuate about 800 tourists stranded at Havelock due to heavy rains, the Navy dispatched its ships in the vicinity to carry out the rescue operation.

“Navy ships Bitra, Bangaram, Kumbhir and LCU 38 have been deployed for the easy evacuation. All ships to go alongside and ferry tourists to Port Blair. Ships departed Port Blair at 0315hrs,” official spokesman of the Navy said. Navy spokesman said, “Safety of the tourists is of utmost importannce” and all possible assistance shall be provided for their safe passage. (AGENCIES)
