SRINAGAR, Dec 11: The residents of Goom Ahmadpora village of Baramulla district today threatened of mass protests if Power Development Department (PDD) failed to fulfill promises made with them.
The residents said that years ago the PDD started construction of 33KV/250MG grid station under EMWRE which was later completed. “After completion of the grid station, the PDD started laying electric line from station to Magam receiving station which we stopped for many reasons and for this the department is itself responsible.
“Later, the District Administration took cognizance of the matter and a meeting was called between Chief Engineer North Circle Baramulla and other officers of the department with the respectable citizens of Goom Ahmadpora,” the residents said.
The inhabitants further said that ultimately it was decided that people would allow cutting of trees that was becoming a hurdle in laying of High Tension (HT) lines.
“The residents within no time cut down the trees,” they said, adding that the demands that were putforth however are yet to be met by the PDD.
The demands of the residents included setting up of a receiving station for Goom Ahmadpora village, creation of sub-station as per requirement in the village and guard matting of HT line from Goom Ahmadpora to Magam. Another demand of the residents was improvement of both HT and Low Tension network in the village.
They warned that if already conveyed demands were not met by the PDD, the residents will hit the streets and stage massive protests and added that the PDD would be itself responsible for the consequences.
