Jammu, Dec 16: Three teams of the STC Jammu, including defending champions Warriors, last years’ semi- finalists Terriers and STC cubs have made it to the semi- finals of the men section in the ongoing senior State Basketball Champion-ship being played at the M A Stadium Jammu.
In the matches played today in the men section, STC Terriers beat Srinagar District 49-36, with winners leading 39-19 at the half time. Kunal Gupta and Tanveer contributed 15 and 9 points respectively for the winners while Mir Furkan contributed 14 points for the losing side. In the other match of the men section, defending champions STC warriors defeated a fighting Kathua District 76-44, with winning side leading 41-22 at the breather. Ranbir Singh and Amanjot contributed 23 and 15 points respectively for the winners while Arjun contributed 20 points for the losing side.
In women section, Srinagar district beat young Jammu district team 17-10 in the morning session. Bushra contributed 6 points for the winners while Rishika contributed 4 for the losing side. The Srinagar team was however humbled by STC terriers 42-31 in the evening session. Pratibha and Amarpreeet contributed 15 and 10 points respectively, while Mehvish contributed 12 for the losing side.
Ranjit Kalra, vice chairman district sports council was special guest in during the evening session. The matches were officiated by Mousmi Verma, Harpreet Singh, Sumit Dogra, Rajesh Bandral, Vaneet Pangotra, Vinod Dogra, Abhishek Gupta and Rajesh Bhagat.
The championship is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Basketball Association.
