JAMMU, Dec 18: BSNL & DoT Pensioners’ Association celebrated Pensioners’ Day here other day.
The Day is celebrated every year on December 17, as on this day in 1982, the land mark judgement regarding pension system in India was delivered by the Bench of 5 Justices of Supreme Court of India headed by Chief Justice, YV Chanderhud titled ‘DS Nakara & others versus UoI’. This judgement became the magnacarta for Indian pensioners.
Speaking on the occasion, HR Gupta, All India vice president of BDPA (l) said that on this day it was declared that all the pensioners, pre and past, governed by the central Civil Services Rules, 1972 shall be entitled to pension under the liberalized pension scheme from the specified date, irrespective of the date of retirement.
He said that benefits of 4th, 5th and 6th Central Pay Commissions were extended to the existing pensioners and regretted that though 7th CPC has also suggested option No 1, which is more beneficial to the existing pensioner and is yet not accepted by the present Government.
On the occasion, all the pensioners paid homage to late Nakara who died at the age of 95 years in 2010.
