7 shops burgled

UDHAMPUR, Dec 19: Some unknown thieves broke opened seven shops in the main market at Latti town of Dudu  Sub- Division last night and decamped with huge cash, mobile phones and other costly items from the shops.
Reports said that despite police patrolling in the town and so called protection of the ATM of the J&K Bank and nearby Govt Treasury by the security agencies, the thieves broke the shutters of  seven shops in the main market during midnight under the nose of cops at nearby Police Station  and decamped  with cash and goods. This is first of its kind incident in this peaceful town.
The people came to know about the matter in the morning. The news of theft spread like a wild fire in this  small town, which is Tehsil headquarter.   Many people  gathered there. SHO, Latti Nissar Ahmed also arrived there along with police party. They started investigation into the matter.
The thieves  burgled the provision store of local former Sarpanch,  Akhtar Hussain, besides mobile shop of one Shamas Din. The other shops belonged to Imtiaz Ahmed, Mool Raj, Abdul Rehman, a bakery shop and a meat shop.
The police said that there is regular patrol during night in the Bazaar and SHO also inspected patrol party at around 12 midnight.  The police claimed to have detained a suspect in this connection and said that investigation is on. During  probe police found that thieves after theft, entered the under construction house of Master Kasturi Lal Gupta and had opened some packets there.
