JAMMU: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti inaugurated a Teachers’ Bhavan and an Auditorium here today. Built over a cumulative cost of Rs 13. 50 crore, the added facilities would be used for continuous teacher trainings and capacity building in the Education Department.
Addressing a gathering after the inaugurations, the Chief Minister said that we need to be sensitive to the needs of not only the students but the teachers as well. She said the teachers need to be given trainings and refresher courses on periodic basis. She said the passion of being a teacher needs to be brought back by taking steps to build the image of a teacher and giving him/her an ambient atmosphere at schools.
Appreciating the efforts of the Department in improving the educational standards in the State, Mehbooba Mufti said the Department should be sensitive towards teachers and try to make them role models for the students, in whichever way possible. She suggested frequent refresher courses for teachers to build capacity among the faculty besides stressing on more and more teachers’ interactions to build their confidence.
The Chief Minister also advised students to actively participate in cultural activities and sports besides academics. She said active participation in sports and cultural activities is a pre requisite for a balanced personality.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh in his address said the present Government ever since it took over has revolutionized the education sector in the State. He said now a change is being felt on the ground in Education sector. He said the coalition Government has brought perceptible changes in other sectors of governance as well which speak of the seriousness of its resolve.
Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar in his address said the Education Department has embarked on a revolutionary path to streamline the learning process in the schools. He said efforts have been made to make teaching enjoyable and passionate for teachers. He thanked the teaching community for having responded positively to his decisions and steps to streamline the educational system in the State.
Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi also spoke on the occasion.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also released a logo of the Directorate of Education, Jammu andCharter of Duties for teachers.
Chairman, Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali; Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta; Minister for Animal & Sheep husbandry, Abdul Ghani Kohli; Deputy Chairman, Legislative Council, Jahangir Mir; Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Asiea Naqash; legislators; Vice- chairmen of Gujjar Board and Kissan Board, Zaffar Khatana and D. S. Chib; Commissioner-Secretary, School Education, Shaleen Kabra, Director, education, Jammu, Babita Rakwal and other senior officers of divisional administration and Education Department were present on the occasion.
