JAMMU, Dec 20: As the ongoing protest by the non-teaching employees of the Jammu University in support of their long pending issues entered into 7th day on Tuesday, the agitating staff announced to extend its daily token strike to three hours from tomorrow.
The agitating employees today suspended work for two hours and held a strong demonstration in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat besides taking out a protest rally on the campus. They raised slogans in support of their demands and the JU administration.
The JU Non-Teaching Employees Union, which is spearheading the token strike, today again appealed the University authorities to consider their long pending and genuine demands at the earliest so that the work related to the student fraternity in particular and others in general may not suffer.
Speakers on the occasion, while reiterating their demands, also highlighted many other issues which, they said, require to be addressed for better working conditions in the University of Jammu. They alleged that the dilly dallying attitude of the University authorities forced the Non Teaching employees to follow the agitation path which is neither in the interest of employee nor in the interest of the University.
They further elaborated that the Non Teaching Union had given enormous time to fulfill their demands but the authorities did not pay any heed . The demonstration was addressed by Pawan Singh, Ashwani Bakshi , Sham Sharma, Vikas Langer and others.
Later, the executive body of the Non-Teaching Employees Union unanimously decided to extend the ongoing token strike from two hours to three hours daily from tomorrow.
