JAMMU, Dec 21: Three days Workshop-cum-Training on “Application of Advanced Diagnostic and Therapeutic Tools for Animal Health Management at Field Level” organized by the Division of Veterinary Medicine, was inaugurated at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Scie-nces and Technology of Jammu, R.S. Pura Campus, Jammu.
Dr Pardeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J inaugurated the workshop and drew attention towards tremendous potential for future growth of livestock sector and significant income opportunities for livestock owners, especially smallholders.
He stressed upon the need to improve livestock management, nutrition, breeding and health. Laying emphasis on disease prevention programmes, he stressed need to design disease predicting models for timely forecast.
Dr S K Abrol, Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, informed that to meet the emerging challenges to livestock production and enhance the productivity of livestock, an effective coordination must be maintained between university and field department. Highlighting the activities of the department he informed that Government of India has launched “Rashtriya Gokul Mission” under which the Sahiwal Cattle Breed has been introduced in the Jammu division.
Dr J P Sharma, Director Research, highlighted nutrients supply from soil to plant and than to animals and this relationship is important for wellbeing of human health. He stressed upon the need to strengthening organic farming system for health of livestock and human. He impressed upon the need for implementation of research work in the field. Dr M S Zamma, Dean, FVSc & AH laid emphasis on timely vaccination and prevention of diseases. He highlighted the need to conserve indigenous germplasm due to their high disease resistance and ability to bear thermal stress.
Earlier, Dr Rajiv Singh, Course Director and Professor & Head, Division of Veterinary Medicine, presented a formal welcome address. Officers from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Jammu, are participating in the training programme.
