JAMMU, Oct 9: A Lok-Adalat was held today in the District Court Complex, Udhampur under the chairmanship of Ashok Kumar Koul (Principal District and Sessions Judge), Udhampur who is also Chairman of District Legal Service Authority.
Two benches were constituted to deal and settle the cases referred to the Lok Adalat in which 73 cases were decided and more than 27 lakh compensation awarded.
The first bench comprising Ashok Kumar Koul (Principal District & Sessions Judge Udhampur), Mohinder Kumar Sharma (Additional District and Sessions Judge Udhampur) and Ishwar Dass Sharma, Advocate was constituted to deal with matrimonial, MACT and Bank Cases.
The second bench comprising Jitender Singh Jamwal, Amit Sharma Munsiff Udhampur and Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Advocate was constituted to deal with Civil and Criminal matters referred by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate and other Magistrates at Udhampur.
A total of 73 cases were taken up in the Lok Adalat by two benches out of which 19 MACT/Bank cases and 17 civil/criminal cases were settled. An amount of Rs 2705000 was awarded as compensation/ recovery in MACT cases.
