Opposition MLAs from Jammu stage walk out

Srinagar Oct 9: The Opposition National Panthers Party, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), expelled members of BJP and independent MLAs from Jammu province today walked out of the Legislative Assembly over the issue of reservation in the Block Development Council (BDCs) and implementation of 73rd Amendment of Indian Constitution to the State Panchayat Raj Act.
The NPP MLA Harsh Dev Singh raised the issue of the reservation of the Social Castes (SCs) and women in BDCs. He was joined by the BJP, expelled BJP and independent MLAs from Jammu province who protested against the Government over the issue of reservation of SCs and women in the BDCs.
The MLAs raised slogans against the Government and said that Government is violating the law pertaining to Panchayat. They said 73rd Amendments will not make much of a difference in the State when Government is violating the Panchayat law.
All the MLAs of the NPP, expelled BJP MLAs and other independent MLAs from Jammu province staged a walk out from the Assembly. However, the BJP MLAs remained standing in the house and pressed for implementation of the 73rd Amendment to the State Panchayat Raj Act. MLA Jugal Kishore was speaking on the issue which couldn’t be heard properly. The BJP members later also staged walk out from the Assembly over the issue.
Earlier, Harsh Dev Singh raised the issue of the notification in which the election to the Vice Chairman of the BDCs was not mentioned. He said that there should have been a common notification for the election to the post of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the BDCs simultaneously.
