NEW DELHI: Riding on the strong buzz around it and outstanding performance by its lead actor with rave reviews by critics, ‘Dangal ‘ has received phenomenal response at the box office, earning Rs 29.78 crore on its opening day across India, trade sources said. Trade sources said actor Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’ opened to a phenomenal start in India with Rs 29.78 cr collections yesterday. This includes the earnings of Rs 59 lakh from Tamil and Telugu dubbed version of the film. The movie is based on life of India’s champion wrestler Mahavir Phogat, who battles the tradition of patriarchy to train his daughters Geeta and Babita to realise his dream of making them international wrestling champions. Directed by Nitesh Tewari, Dangal features Aamir in the title role of Mahavir Phogat and newcomers Fatima Sana sheikh and Santa Malhotra as his daughters Geeta and Babita .
