JAMMU, Jan 6: Jammu and Kashmir has taken lead in reducing the Infant Mortality Rate from 34 to 26 in a single year by registering decline of 8 points in IMR which is the highest amongst all the States.
This achievement has been witnessed for the first time in the history of J&K State. IMR in the State has declined from 34 to 26 which is way ahead of the national average of 37.
This has been revealed by the latest Sample Registration Survey conducted by Registrar General of India. The J&K State has been ranked 6th amongst the 21 bigger States in the Country for bring down Infant Mortality Rate.
This feat has been achieved with the efforts of Bali Bhagat, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Asiea Naqash, Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, entire team of Health and Medical Education including Dr MK Bhandari, Commissioner/Secretary H&ME Department, Dr Mohan Singh, Mission Director, NHM, Director Family Welfare, Directors of Health Services and Principals of the two Government Medical Colleges.
It was informed that progress in scaling up the interventions to save the lives of the new borns was substantially accelerated during recent times leading to this drastic reduction in IMR.
Bali Bhagat, Minister for Health & Medical Education Department, appreciated the efforts of the Commissioner Secretary, H&ME, Mission Director, National Health Mission, J&K, Principal GMC Jammu/Srinagar, Director Health Services, Jammu/Kashmir, Director Family Welfare, J&K and Director SKIIMS, Srinagar for their continued efforts to improve maternal and new born care in the State which resulted in continuous decrease in IMR and stressed sustained efforts in future for better health care service delivery so as to further improve the maternal and child health indicators in the coming years.
