Aamir’s ‘Dangal’ beats ‘PK’ to become biggest grosser ever

MUMBAI, Jan 9:
Aamir Khan’s latest release “Dangal” has emerged as the biggest box office grosser of Indian cinema beating sueprstar’s own film “PK”.
“Dangal,” based on the life of Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita, also surpassed the lifetime collection of Salman Khan’s “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” and “Sultan.”
“I am absolutely overwhelmed with all the love that ‘Dangal’ has got. It is one of the most passionate responses I have ever received. I want to thank everyone for owning the film as their own.
“It’s the biggest compliment a creative person can receive. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And thank you Nitesh sir,” Aamir said in a statement.
The movie also starring Fatima Sana Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra, has collected Rs 345.3 crore till Sunday (net India box office).
“‘Dangal’ is an extremely special film for us at Disney, Aamir Khan and the entire cast and crew of the film. This is our ninth film with Aamir and with Dangal we’ve broke our own record of ‘PK’.
“‘Dangal’ epitomises what we aim to achieve through our movies – wholesome family entertainment with such a strong emotional connect and the telling of a story that we strongly believe in,” said Amrita Pandey, Vice President, Studios, Disney India.
The film collected Rs 14.33 cr on Sunday which is also the biggest 17th Day collection for any film. (PTI)
